The Alvão Natural Park is a discovery to be experienced at least once in a lifetime. Casa do Rio, located in the town of Atei, Mondim de Basto, makes an excellent base to explore the region. In this district, you will find the beautiful Fisgas de Ermelo waterfalls, natural lagoons, Piocas de Cima and Piocas de Baixo, and the charming village of Lamas de Ôlo. You can also find natural scenes of history at Crastoeiro – an important fortified settlement from the Iron Age, admire the panoramic views from Monte Farinha and Sanctuary of Senhora da Graça, and the Arco de Baúlhe Railway Museum (where the historic train 1890-1908 is kept). If you are a nature lover, you can enjoy outdoor activities, including hiking, rafting, canoeing, sport fishing, paragliding and canoeing. If you are a cycling enthusiast, you can also try a 39km bicycle track which was converted from an old railway track, from the town of Arco do Baúlhe to the beautiful city of Amarante.
